Let's just get the contemporary pop culture reference out of the way and say that if you liked Kill Bill, you should see Lady Snowblood (Shurayukihime). Not only will you probably really like it, you should see where Tarantino got many of his ideas: the plot (badass samurai chick seeks revenge), the gore (very red blood spurts everywhere), and some of the gimmicks (the out-of-order narration and chapters with titles). But whereas Kill Bill is good, and Uma Thurman running around with a sword is awesome (man I'm making myself want to see Kill Bill again), it's too ironic to be badass. The two don't really mix, and Tarantino is too self-conscious, and his movies have too much wink-nudge, to be just straight up badass (though that's obviously what he's going for). Lady Snowblood, on the other hand, is completely sincere and therefore, though it can get unintentionally funny at times, it's totally badass. Beyond saying that, anything else I could say about it would just sound pretentious. It's a badass samurai chick movie, what else do you need to know?
