Raymond Scott - The Paperwork Explosion

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 11:32 PM
music
My remix of Scott's The Paperwork Explosion, from his album Manhattan Research, Inc., which is basically soundtracks from a bunch of commercials and "THE WORLD OF THE FUTURE!" type short films. There is some awesome stuff on there, and also some just weird (e.g. the track "Don't Beat Your Wife Every Night").

Also, by the way, I rerecorded Attack of the Tooth Fairies because the levels were too pegged. This one sounds a little better.

The Paperwork Explosion is really good. You need a second version with a techno boom-chik, and it will acquire a Riccardo Villalobos vibe.

Re: paperwork explosion Jack Dangers' lawyer called, he's a bit worried ;0)

Not that that's a bad thing, mind you.

The combination of old tape music-style synth work and breakbeats, with the occasional lo-fi vocal sample is fertile ground he's been sowing for the last few years, this has a similar stylistic feel to a lot of the stuff on RUOK and Autoimmune.

what it reminds me of, actually, is fortran 5. i used to have an album of theirs, and there were one or two tracks on there that sounded a lot like this. i should hunt that down again.

I didn't know anything about Scott before this. Great stuff (the remix, too)! The samples made me think of the late "psychic", Criswell from Ed Wood's movies.

We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember, my friends: future events such as these will affect you, in the future!
